While fashionistas have had a crazy month thus far in London, New York and Milan, there was another trend spotting event happening in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas furniture market is the trend spotter’s gold for future watchers in the home decor and accessories industries. This is where the buyers for your furniture chain go to find the latest styles from suppliers who receive their collections from manufacturers in china and elsewhere.
Furniture has a very long and complicated supply chain which makes it slower and slightly more conservative than its Prêt-à-Porter counter-parts. So, looking at this year’s fashions may be able to give us a peek at next year’s furniture.
Okay, A week, or so, has gone by and I have the majority of the New site (rarmedia.net) up and running. I chose to stick with WordPress for a couple reasons.
1. I am lazy. Every other CMS and blogging platform requires acres of separate XML, Javascript, php, and CSS files for each page and element. that gets into some crazy amount of extra time for me as a designer.
2. I am not that bright when it comes to programming. The WordPress community is probably the broadest and deepest development community out there, with a vast array of plug-and-play options. This makes it much easier to grab content, manipulate the javascript and styling a little and come out with a shiny new piece.
3. I’m not a fan of templates. Don’t get me wrong; they are great jumping off points. Plus, some template developers have made some stunning designs. I just like getting all dirty and the wide open WordPress format gives me as little or as much room as I need.
So, this blog will be migrating over to the new site, rarmedia.net (it never hurts to repeat it), in the next month or so and all the extra sites will be coming down.
Anyway… this week I received a sort of non-promotion promotion. I was given all the responsibilities of an art director without the pay or title. For our team to be successful we DID need someone in that position, and I’m flattered to be asked, but conditions of the job have me apprehensive. I don’t know how to read this move and I don’t want to be all pessimistic about it because I wanted to move towards an actual art director position anyway. I’m just confused and working all Labor Day weekend because of the new politics involved.

And finally, I am off to see St. Vincent in October and I am super excited. I am finally getting back into a concert mood.
