Okay so, this sight has been up for about a month now. I still have some tweaking to do but for the most part it accomplishes what it is supposed to do. We can’t have that. If anything this past year has taught me is that everything has to be in constant chaos. It’s when the dust settles and the hunter can fix his aim that you stand the highest risk of being put down.
That’s why I’m working on a re-design already. That and I want to integrate all these sites into one cohesive thing. below is a mock-up.
There are a couple other reasons for the change as well.
1) I lost the bid on rarmedia as a company name. I do, however, still retain the rights to the URL. The brand owner hasn’t bid for use yet.
2) I want to get the whole ball of wax on the same CMS system. I have WordPress for the front end of most but I’m also using drupal, and silverstripe for others with a custom back-end for one of the wordpress ones.
3) I’ve come to realize that I can’t do all the things that I wanted. There is only so much time in the day and a girl has to earn money to eat.
4) The job factor. Work has become, how do I say this, drastically more interesting in the past couple of months. Between increasing harassment, outsourcing to a national HR company that has never dealt with a trans-person before, the new medical pressures that ensue, and the general bad outlook for B-to-B publishing; I have not had a night free from my neurosis for quite a while.
5) I just want it to look shinier.
I love magazines and I love publishing desperately so. I left a life in architecture to pursue journalism. I feel that it is still an immensely viable industry that has been mis-managed into the ground. I would love to stay and grow here, but that seems not very possible at the moment. I don’t know what I’m going to do for work. but that, my dear friends… is the subject for another blog.
Okay, that was a downer. to lighten the mood…
Goodnight everybody!
UPDATE!!
Here’s a screen shot of the test site! We’re moving forward like the rockets of yore.
