    Oh, Hai!

    Biographical

    Spoons to Skyscrapers

Welcome to yet another blog choking the internet. I guess it was only a matter of time before I actually put something together. As with many things, this site is an ongoing and evolving creature.

My main reason for this little chunk of internet real estate is to pursue my interests in arts and cultural reporting. This is a passion I’ve had for quite sometime and as regular media options have all but disappeared, (more on the later) this seems as good a place as any to indulge such interests.

So without further ado, let’s do a little topic run-down!

    Jack of all trades…

Okay, a little about your illustrious author.

I am a 29-year-old, naturally red-headed capricorn born in the year of the goat. So… That pretty much means I’m a stubborn bitch, especially when I’m right. And, I’m right all the time except when I’m not. Currently, I’m working as a graphic designer at a B-to-B (trade magazine) publisher north of Chicago though my schooling was in Journalism with an emphasis on magazine development. But, when your living out of your car, and couch surfing with any relatives you can find, you take the first job you can get. Along the way I’ve worked as a city-beat reporter, political writer, barista, suit salesperson, pizza delivery person, bus graphics artist, illustrator, editor, art director and sou chef.

Actually, that’s partially true. I originally studied and practiced(interned) architecture for about four years before drifting into a sleep madness – not very good when working with sharp objects – and I quit the next day.

So, how’s that song go; Jack of all trades – master of none?

That is the rough-and-tumble life of yours truly. Oh yeah, did I mention I’m transgender? Yup this lady went to an all-boys Catholic school. Fun times but, I digress. I probably am not going to focus on this area of knowledge other then to journal a little and vent about the process. There are much better blogs by much smarter people on this subject and I don’t feel right throwing my two cents around when someone else can be more helpful.

I will say that the internet and certain social networking apps have really helped to open up, and strengthen our community. Those sorts of topics would probably be covered.

    speaking of topics…

    MEDIA

Did you know that we are killing the industry right now? Here. At this very second! The internet is killing journalism! All the papers say it’s true. Insiders are scared out of their pants while, outsiders – who really don’t know how the “sausage is made” – throw up their hands in disgust. I’ll try and sort out some of the inside ball of media management, and we’ll try and discover a middle ground where journalists and content creators can earn a living while you get the access you want.

    TECHNOLOGY

Okay, I’ll admit it. I am a total nerd. Seriously, look up my national chess championship scores. NERD. Right here. I love shiny, cute new things that click and whirr in the night. I think it falls under my general curiosity and life-long-learning goals. If I discover a doodad or what-cha-ma-whos-it, y’all know the catagory.

    THE ARTS & DESIGN

Ah, the main focus. I’ll be featuring all sorts of cool artsy, cultural things that I find here. Hey, did you notice the video player up above? Ultimately, the goal is to do a little art-beat reporting and post stuff up there as well. We’ll see how it goes. I’m already compiling a list of fancy topics; If you have some good ones, preferably cheap to research (I live around Chicago not Las Vegas, etc.), let me know.

    ARCHITECTURE

A subset of design, I know. This city is just pouring over with great stories about development, new structures and materials, urban planning, ecological design, etc.. It really deserves its own separate category.

    OTHER STUFF

This could possibly be music, gender, random nerd things, fashion, Oprah, anything really. Fun times, my friends – fun times.

Okay, that is the run down. I hope I wasn’t too boring. I promise to make things spunkier as we start kickin’ into gear here.

So until later, I say good day to you.
